Overriding Supplemental Life Coverage Limits

As a manager you can override coverage limits for an employee's supplemental life enrollment. You can override the coverage level, if necessary, to ignore Evidence of Insurability (EOI) and Age Reduction rules. However, in the override mode, you must still honor any Max and Min limits.

To override coverage limits, you use an administrative override life event. A Wizard will step you through the process.

One of your employees selects supplemental life coverage that exceeds the Guaranteed Issue (GI) limit and therefore requires Evidence of Insurability. The employee has completed the application, and it has been approved. Now you are needing to enter the override coverage limit for the respective employee.

 

To override the coverage limit:

1.   On the Management Navigation Menu, click Benefits > Life EventsBenefits > Life Events.

The Life EventsLife Events page displays.

2.   Select the employee for whom you would like to override coverage from the EmployeeEmployee drop-down box.

3.   In the Create New Life Event section, select Administrative Override Life Event type.

The Life Event WizardLife Event Wizard displays.

4.   Enter a date (in the format mm/dd/yyyy) in the Effective DateEffective Date text box.

Note: Use the desired effective date for the override changes. The override may be submitted up to 30 days before the effective date.  

5.   Describe the purpose and circumstances behind the administrative override in the Life Event NotesLife Event Notes text box.

6.   Click the Start WizardStart Wizard button.

The Life Event - Dependent ChangesLife Event - Dependent Changes page displays.

7.   Click the NextNext button.

The Life Event Wizard (Information) page displays.

8.   Click the NextNext button.

The Life Event - Dependent ChangesLife Event - Dependent Changes page displays.

9.  Click the EditEdit icon next to Supplemental Life.

10. Click the EditEdit icon next to the employee or eligible dependent to be covered.

The Supplemental Life Election Details page displays.

11. Click the Override EOI and/or Age Reduction Coverage LimitsOverride EOI and/or Age Reduction Coverage Limits link.

The page changes to Coverage Override Mode.

12. Enter the desired amount of coverage in the Elected Annual Coverage box.

13. Click the Save button.

The Supplemental Life Plans page shows the new coverage amount and employee cost.

14.  Click the NextNext button.

The Life Event Wizard (Information) page displays.

15.  Click the NextNext button.

The Life Event Enrollment ValidationLife Event Enrollment Validation page displays.

Note: The Validation process will verify that all modified elections meet certain enrollment rules according to your plan rules. If critical errors are encountered, they will be indicated in this report. You must correct these errors before submitting the Life Event.

16.  Carefully review all information on this report.

Note: If you need to adjust any information, click the PreviousPrevious button and return to the Benefit Enrollment screen.

17.  If you are satisfied with these elections, click the PrintPrint button to obtain a printed copy of this report.

18.  Click the NextNext button.

The Life Event Wizard (Information) page displays.

19.  Click the NextNext button.

The Life Event SummaryLife Event Summary page displays all changes to the employee's record as a result of the administrative override.

20.  If all changes are accurate, click the ApproveApprove button.

Result: All changes will be reflected in the employee's records.

Note: Although you may exit the life event wizard at any time by clicking the ExitExit button, exiting the life event does not delete it. The life event will remain in the system until you complete it or delete it.
